Film Screening at UCSB, May 29
DjembeConnect is collaborating with Tamakan Rhythms and other drumming groups in the Santa Barbara area to perform prior to a film screening event at University of California Santa Barbara!
The two UCSB students, Keiara and Maya, recently traveled to South Africa and made a short film “For My Brothers Back Home” about a young man who became a professional soccer player in Spain.

Join a two day djembe drumming workshop with Grandmaster Bolokada Condé in beautiful Santa Barbara, California!
All levels welcome! We have a limited number of djembes for you to borrow. First-come-first-served basis.
When: Saturday April 11 and Sunday April 12, 2026.

What to expect: Bolokada will teach technique, timing and the fundamentals for each rhythm of his choice. He will also provide cultural and historical information about the rhythms. We will have the opportunity to learn the song that goes with some of the rhythms. This wholistic approach allows for a deepening experience of West African music.
About Bolokada
Moussa “Bolokada” Condé is a master drummer from Kissidougou, Guinea , West Africa. He is an expert of Malinke rhythms, and one of the world’s foremost djembefölas. He joined Les Percussions de Gunée to replace the legendary Noumoudy Keita as their lead drummer. He has traveled and performed in major venues all over the world since 1996 and was featured in the IMAX movie PULSE: a Stomp Odyssey. Since 2004, he has been performing and teaching in the United States. He has conducted percussion workshops in many cities in the US, Europe, and Asia [from Wikipedia]
